In the Zero Gravity position  the lower legs are positioned above the heart, pressure on the spine is reduced, spinal muscle tension is relieved, and the spine is allowed to decompress.  In the Zero Gravity position circulation is increased because the heart is on the same plane as the bulk of the body's mass and therefore has to do the least amount of work to pump blood throughout the system.
